Black Cultural Archives is currently shaping its plans to create a National Black Heritage Centre in London. For many years BCA has been seeking a permanent home for its unique archive collection. Our vision for establishing a living heritage monument to document the black presence in the UK is now being realised. In 2005, with the assistance of Lambeth Neigh-ourhood Renewal Scheme, the BCA delivered a feasibility study to Lambeth Council for the relo-cation of the BCA and its archive collection to Raleigh Hall in central Brixton.
A derelict listed building, Raleigh Hall is situated next to Windrush Square (named to commeorate the arrival of West Indian migrants on the Empire Windrush in 1948, many of whom settled in the local area), opposite Lambeth Town Hall.
Plans for the conversion of Raleigh Hall include an exhibition space, interactive educational zones, seminar and training facilities, a research centre, staff offices and specialist rooms to house the Archives. Support our vision for Raleigh Hall in 2010 by engaging with our activities and our fundraising campaign.
