Story of London: Khadambi Asalache house

Wed, 17 Jun 2009 09:26:43 GMT

As part of the Mayor's month-long Story of London festival, Black Cultural Archives and the National Trust present ‘sneak preview’ tours of the home of the Kenyan poet and artist Khadambi Asalache.

This magical and beautiful house is decorated throughout with wooden fretwork hand-carved by Khadambi over 20 years. The symbolism and images depicted within the fretwork, combined with Khadambi's personal collection of artefacts and artworks tell a fascinating story of the poet making his home
in London.

After the tour, visitors will be invited to take part in a discussion on the themes inherent in the house.

(those selected from the ticket ballot will be given the full address - for security reasons we are unable to do this for publicity)
