About this project
Over the next two years Raleigh Hall, a derelict Grade II* listed building in central Brixton will be transformed into the new home for the Black Cultural Archives - the UK's first national Black heritage centre. The £6.5million capital project will refurbish a long-disused building which will also be extended to house a new archive repository and exhibition gallery.

The building will include:
• a secure and environmentally-controlled archive strongroom compliant with the British Standard 5454:2000 allowing us to continue to safeguard our collection for future generations
• two exhibition galleries
• a specialist research centre and reference library
• dedicated spaces for education and learning for children and adults
The project is currently in the development phase, with construction scheduled for 2010. Doors open in 2011.
We are grateful to the support of our community, in particular the Brixton Area Forum and Raleigh Hall Action Group. We would also like to thank the Heritage Lottery Fund, London Development Agency and London Borough of Lambeth for their continuing support.
